Driver charged with DUI, child endangerment in Lancaster Co. crash

A Lancaster man was charged with two counts of felony DUI with great bodily injury and one count of child endangerment after an accident on Flat Rock Road Thursday, according to the state highway patrol.

Ronnie Eugene Paterson, 34, was traveling south on Flat Rock Road about 12:50 p.m. when he veered off the road, striking a utility pole and a tree before overturning, the highway patrol said.

He was taken to Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster with minor injuries.

There were two children in the car. A 10-year-old was taken by helicopter to the Palmetto Health Richland emergency department and a 5-year-old was taken to Springs Memorial and then flow by helicopter to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, according to the highway patrol.

The names of the children were not released by the highway patrol.
