SC death certificate shortage is ending

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control says it has received a shipment of paper necessary to resume processing all requests for death and birth certificates.

The agency had imposed a limit of of five copies per death and birth after its supplier of security paper unexpectedly closed its doors.

A new provider has been arranged and shipments have resumed, agency officials said. The documents are printed on security paper that uses an anti-counterfeiting technique.

DHEC officials said back-order requests would be processed immediately in the order in which they were received, with normal operations expected to resume by Wednesday.
