SC authorities decline to release dashcam video in teen’s death

South Carolina authorities have declined a TV station’s request to release video from a police cruiser related to the shooting death of a 19-year-old by a police officer.

WYFF reportsthat the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division declined a Freedom of Information Act request to release dashcam video.

An email on Friday denying the station’s request notes that the video is part of an ongoing investigation for which no arrests have been made.

A Seneca police lieutenant has said he shot 19-year-old Zachary Hammond during a police stop the night of July 26 because he felt threatened as the teen drove his car at him. Both Hammond and the officer are white.

State investigators are investigating and will send findings to the local prosecutor.
