Lancaster County residents have plenty of opportunities to get the information they need before a Nov. 4 vote on whether to start a new transportation tax for road improvements.

Beginning Thursday, two town halls will be held through Oct. 21. The county-sponsored events will give details onhow a new 1% sales tax would be charged and how the revenue used. If approved by voters, the tax would be in place for up to $10 years or until the county raises $253 million.

U.S. 521, or Charlotte Highway, is on the ballot with a list of major widening projects that include Henry Harris, Barberville and Harrisburg roads. Intersections, roundabouts, repaving and town road upgrades also are part of the new tax plan.

The town hall events start at 6:30 p.m., and last two hours each. Here are the dates and locations for the public events:

  • Oct. 7, Crossridge Auditorium, 3000 World Reach Dr., Indian Land
  • Oct. 9, Del Webb Library, 7641 Charlotte Hwy., Indian Land

  • Oct. 21, Kershaw Town Hall, 113 N. Hampton St., Kershaw
