Man killed near downtown Rock Hill in third city gun death in three days

Rock Hill, South Carolina police said they are investigating a fatal shooting in downtown on Feb. 20, 2026 in a parking area.
Rock Hill, South Carolina police said they are investigating a fatal shooting in downtown on Feb. 20, 2026 in a parking area.

A 19-year-old man died after a shooting Friday morning in which the victim was found near downtown Rock Hill in a parking area, officials said.

It was the third fatal shooting in three days in the city. But police said the latest gun violence is not believed to be connected to two deaths Tuesday night in a residential neighborhood where two brothers, ages 4 and 19, were killed in a shootout at a home.

Police responded around 2:20 a.m., the Rock Hill Police Department said in a statement. The victim was in a parking area at 116 Elizabeth Lane, a statement from Rock Hill police Lt. Michael Chavis said.

An initial police statement said Friday morning the victim was found in the 100 block of East Main Street. The department in the second statement clarified the correct location as “the parking deck at 116 Elizabeth Lane.”

No other details about the investigation or why the man was in the parking area when he was shot have been released.

The victim has not yet been identified by police or the York County Coroner.

Police: Latest killing not related to Tuesday double murder

Chavis said the city’s latest shooting death has nothing to do with Tuesday’s shootout on Frank Street in southern Rock Hill near Saluda Street and Heckle Boulevard in the city’s Flint Hill neighborhood.

On Tuesday night, 4-year-old Jakolby Clifton and 19-year-old Jamareon Kimble died after an exchange of gunfire between Kimble and Cedric Akeen Creighton at a house, police said. Coroner officials said the two who died were brothers.

Creighton, 34, of Lancaster, remains hospitalized after being shot Tuesday. He faces two counts of murder and two weapons charges.
