Meet your Rock Hill City Council member at a neighborhood meeting near you

Voters soon will have a chance to voice their concerns about Rock Hill to their member of City Council face-to-face.

In the next few weeks, each member of the Rock Hill City Council will hold a “neighborhood meeting” in their own ward to share information on city activities and hear from residents in person.

Attendees at the public meetings will hear from city staff about stormwater projects, street maintenance, utility rates and billing, initiatives from the Rock Hill Police Department, and programs available from Housing and Neighborhood Services.

Residents also will hear from their representative on the City Council, Mayor Doug Echols – who will make comments at each planned meeting – and other city officials, the city says.

Meetings will begin Tuesday, and continue until October.

The meetings come just a few weeks before three council members face re-election to new four-year terms in the Oct. 20 election:

▪ Sandra Oborokumo, who represents Ward 1 (much of western Rock Hill)

▪ Kathy Pender, who represents Ward 2, (north-central Rock Hill)

▪ Kevin Sutton, who represents Ward 3, (southeastern Rock Hill)

As of Wednesday, no one had filed to run against them in the nonpartisan race. Filling for City Council candidates closes at 5 p.m. Friday.

Echols and the other three members of the City Council – John Black (Ward 4), Ann Williamson (Ward 5) and Jim Reno (Ward 6) – will face re-election in 2017.
