Traffic backed up miles on I-77 after crash south of Rock Hill: officials

Traffic remains backed up for miles on Interstate 77 in Chester County after a crash Tuesday, officials said.

The S.C. Department of Transportation web site that shows interstate traffic stated there are at least four miles of backups at speeds below 20 miles per hour around 1:30 p.m. after the incident in the late morning on the northbound side of I-77 near mile marker 64.

Both lanes of the highway were blocked for a time before the right lane re-opened. The area is south of Rock Hill on the main route between Columbia and Charlotte.

Chester County deputies said in a sheriff’s office Facebook social media posting multiple agencies went to the scene after a serious collision.

WSOC-TV. The Herald’s news partner, reported that its helicopter that flew over the scene saw an RV that was towing a car in woods off the highway.

It is unclear if there were injuries.

The Herald has reached out to the S.C. Highway Patrol for more information.
