South Carolina emergency crews are continuing a search Tuesday for a swimmer who went missing in Lake Wylie near Tega Cay Monday night, officials said.

The person jumped off a boat then did not resurface, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office.

Responders from the sheriff’s dive team, S.C. Department of Natural Resources, and Tega Cay police and fire responded, along with other rescue teams. Divers went in the water around 9 p.m. looking for the person but suspended the search because of unsafe diving conditions around 10:30 p.m.

The area is near the Lake Wylie Dam in northern York County close to the North Carolina border with Charlotte.

Search crews are staging Tuesday at Ebenezer Park boat landing on the Rock Hill side of the lake, said Trent Faris, spokesman for the sheriff’s office.
