York County opens a new park this weekend. Here’s a look.
York County’s newest park is set to open this weekend after nearly two years of development.
The 84-acre Woodend Park will open Saturday in the Bethel-Lake Wylie Preservation Park District.
The park will have 10 designated hiking trails totaling 2.5 miles through meadows and wooded forests, according to the county.
Woodend Park is located off Glenn Brandon Road and Highway 557 in Lake Wylie. The parking lot has space for 40 cars.
Woodend is a leave no trace park, according to the county, which means it will not have any trashcans.
The park’s hours are as follows:
- November to February: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- March to April: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m..
- May to August: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- September to October: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The park’s development was approved in March 2024 by the York County Council.
The county bought the park land across from Oakridge Middle School for $84 million through the creation of a land preservation tax district, The Herald reported.
Another York County park, The Goat Farm, was also approved in March 2024 and is currently under development. The 6.8 acre park’s concept plan includes farmer’s market space, a community garden and a nature based playground.
