Executive Inn demolition gets go-ahead after asbestos delay
After a long wait for health inspectors to complete the removal of a larger than expected amount of asbestos from the site, a long-condemned Rock Hill motel may finally be coming down.
The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control has now issued the demolition permit for the remaining buildings of the Executive Inn on Anderson Road. Work on the site could begin as early as Thursday.
In October 2014, the inn was condemned by the city as “unfit for human occupancy,” citing several structural problems and a failure on the part of the owner to address them. Eight charges of violating Rock Hill’s maintenance codes were filed against H.S. Enterprises of Rock Hill, the motel’s operator. Those charges are still pending.
The inn was originally scheduled to be demolished by April 1, but demolition did not begin until late March because more asbestos was discovered in the building than anticipated, and was later put off again as inspectors found even more asbestos when the front office building was demolished and another round of inspections had to be performed.
