Rock Hill man dies while walking in Cherry Park

A Rock Hill man died of natural causes while walking the trail at Cherry Park on Monday, according to Rock Hill Police.

Officers responded to the park about 9:45 a.m., and EMS and Rock Hill Fire were already working on the 82-year-old victim, according to a police report. The victim was unresponsive and unconscious after 30 minutes of CPR.

A parkgoer told police he and the victim were about to walk past each other on the trail when the victim “appeared to be having some issue and walked toward the bench,” the report states. The man fell and hit his head on a trash can.

A passerby began CPR on the man until paramedics arrived. York County Coroner Sabrina Gast determined his death was natural.
