Clover’s $1M lottery winner claims prize, plans to retire at lake
A North Carolina couple came across the state line for cheaper gas and left $1 million richer.
The lucky couple, who declined to be identified, picked up a winning Mega Millions lottery ticket for Friday’s drawing at the Local Market 2 on Hwy. 321 in Clover, according to lottery officials.
The husband checked their ticket online over the weekend, and claimed their prize earlier this week.
“For years, we’ve been dreaming of a home on the lake,” the husband told lottery officials.
The couple is starting its search right away.
The odds of winning $1 million playing Mega Millions are about 1 in 18.5 million.
For selling the claimed ticket, Local Market 2 in Clover received a commission of $10,000.
Friday’s wining ticket was the fourth million-dollar winner in the region, lottery officials said. In January, a Chester store sold a $1 million Powerball ticket. In March 2014, a York store sold a scratch-off ticket worth $1 million.
