2 GOP candidates to speak in Rock Hill on Wednesday
Voters will have a chance on Wednesday to see not one but two of the candidates seeking the Republican presidential nomination, but in one case, only if they got their tickets early.
Free tickets were still available late Tuesday for U.S. Sen. Rand Paul’s event with U.S. Rep. Mick Mulvaney at 10:30 a.m. at the old American Legion hall on Cherry Road. But a later event for Carly Fiorina at Winthrop University has sold out.
The Fiorina campaign has stopped giving out tickets for the event at McBryde Hall on the Winthrop campus after the facility reached its capacity of 750. The event earlier moved from the Magnolia Room at Laurel Creek after online ticket requests for the event took off.
The California businesswoman has taken off as a candidate after her inclusion in last week’s GOP debate on CNN, where she received strong reviews for her performance alongside state and federal elected officials as well as frontrunner Donald Trump. Fiorina will speak starting at 6 p.m.
Earlier in the day, Paul will make his third appearance in Rock Hill in the last four months when the Kentucky senator speaks to supporters at the Legion hall. At the event, Mulvaney will formally endorse Paul for president, the first South Carolina congressman to endorse a Republican presidential candidate.
Mulvaney, whose 5th Congressional District includes York, Chester and Lancaster counties, has said he hopes Paul will shake up the GOP establishment in Washington and limit the powers of the executive branch in favor of a more active Congress. The Indian Land congressman also believes Paul is well-positioned as a senator who has gone against his party’s orthodox positions on some issues to pick up support from other “outsider” candidates like Fiorina.
