Rock Hill businessman on Thursday’s ‘Price is Right’ TV game show
The Angel family’s August trip to California airs Thursday morning on TV.
Not the entire trip, but dad’s latest 15 minutes of fame, as a contestant on the “The Price is Right.”
David Angel, president of Angel Insurance & Financial Services in Rock Hill and a former All-America basketball player at Clemson University, was selected as one of the show’s contestants. That’s all he can say for now because of his contract with the show.
But the experience is the one of the best “free” things Angel has done – there is no charge for tickets to the taping of “The Price is Right.”
Going to a game show was just one of several quintessential California experiences Angel wanted his family to have on their trip. They rented a beach house and went to Malibu, Los Angeles and Venice Beach.
As the family started making its plans, Angel inquired about getting tickets to “Family Feud,” – “its fits our family – but learned the show is no longer taped in Los Angeles.
They then decided on “The Price is Right.”
Beauty and energy likely played a role in Angel’s selection.
“I have tall, beautiful girls,” Angel said of his daughters, Jana, 26 a professional volleyball player; Alexandria, 24 a fashion designer; and Savannah, 22, a student and volleyball player at High Point University in North Carolina.
Angel, his daughters, and his wife, Jan, were enthusiastic about the taping, mirroring the energy shown on the set. When they got into the studio the daughters were directed to the first three seats to the left of the contestants while mom and dad were seated behind them.
There was a quick “10-second interview” with the 300 or so studio guests, who were evaluated to be contestants for the show that was taped Aug. 4, Angel said.
Angel’s number – 99 –was called.
To find out what happens next you will have to watch the show – the first 15 minutes, Angel said.
When it came to bidding on the prices, Angel said he got lucky a few times and a couple of times he based his pricing on the times he had watched the show. But most often, Angel said his prices were based on the times he went shopping with his wife and his daughters.
Angel also said he and show host Drew Cary got along well.
Again details are sketchy, but, Angel said, “I promise you a laugh,”
