York County lieutenant graduates FBI academy
A York County sheriff’s lieutenant recently joined a prestigious group of law enforcement officers who have graduated from the FBI National Academy.
Lt. Mike Ligon completed the National Academy program in Quantico, Va., and graduated this month with a class of 250 officers, according to a statement from the York County Sheriff’s Office. Included in that class are members of law enforcement agencies from 48 states and the District of Columbia, 23 countries, five military organizations and five federal civilian organizations.
Internationally known for its academic excellence, the program offers 10 weeks of advanced communication, leadership and fitness training for selected officers with proven records within their agencies. Sheriff’s spokesman Trent Faris said Ligon has been with the agency 17 years, and is the fifth York County officer to complete the program.
Officers selected for the program have, on average, 19 years of law enforcement experience, Faris said, and graduates usually return to their agencies to serve in executive-level position.
The academy has produced more than 48,500 graduates since it began in 1935.
