‘SCarowinds’ to open Saturday night; other events canceled due to weather

Carowinds say its nighttime haunt event “SCarowinds” will open Saturday at 7 p.m., despite the damp and windy conditions around York County and the Charlotte area. The park was closed Friday and most of Saturday.

Other closings and cancellations include:

▪ Battle of Kings Mountain 235th Anniversary Encampment scheduled for Saturday and Sunday has been cancelled. The park hopes to reschedule Oct. 10-11. Ceremonies commemorating the anniversary on Oct. 7 have not yet been cancelled.

▪ The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Charlotte has been cancelled.

▪ The 22nd annual Carolina Renaissance Festival, scheduled to open Saturday, will postpone the opening of its 8 weekend season to Sunday. Typically open rain or shine, the festival considers North Carolina’s declaration of a state of emergency a unique weather condition. The festival runs weekends through Nov. 22.

▪ The 178th Engineers National Guard fundraiser yard sale scheduled for Saturday at the armory on Museum Road in Rock Hill has been postponed and rescheduled for Saturday, Oct. 10. Donations will be accepted Monday through Friday Oct. 9 at the armory.

▪ Winthrop University Family Day activities on Saturday will go on but move indoors. Participants will start their day at 10 a.m. with a light breakfast and a welcome by Winthrop President Dan Mahony in McBryde Hall. An academic showcase will be at 11 a.m. Lunch will be in the Richardson Ballroom in the DiGiorgio Campus Center. A festival follows in the Lois Rhame West Center where guests can capture memories in a photo booth, paint pottery, play corn hole, and participate in a badminton tournament and family relay races.The option to go kayaking has been cancelled.

▪ The Tega Cay Police Department Camp Cadet golf tournament has been postponed 9 a.m. Oct. 19.

▪ ALL Alive at 25 classes have been cancelled statewide this weekend. For information, contact The SC Safety Council in Columbia.

▪ The Cherry Park softball tournament, scheduled for Friday-Sunday, has been postponed until Oct. 9-11.

▪ Lancaster Community yard sale scheduled for Saturday has been cancelled.

▪ Kings Mountain Daughters of the American Revolution yard sale, scheduled Saturday, is rescheduled for Oct. 10.

▪ The Adult Enrichment Center of Fort Mill cornhole tournament scheduled for Saturday has been canceled. The barbecue and music party will go on as scheduled inside the Field Trial Barn.

▪ Eddie Z’s Concert for Kidneys scheduled for Saturday in Tega Cay has been postponed to a date TBA in 2016.

▪ The St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Blessing of the Animals scheduled for Sunday has been postponed to a date TBA.

▪ Emmanuel Church of the Nazarene’s second annual Community Bazaar and Craft Show scheduled Saturday in Rock Hill has been postponed to Oct. 24.
