Polls are open: York Co. deciding on $89M bond referendum; cities, towns electing mayors, councils
Bond referendum
York County residents will go to the polls on Tuesday to decide whether the county should borrow about $89 million to pay for renovations and improvements at several government facilities:
▪ $38.5 million – Expansion, security improvements at the Moss Justice Center
▪ $26 million – Expansion, security improvements at the Family Court center on Heckle Boulevard
▪ $22 million – Improvements to the county recycling center, other space needs at the Public Works Department
▪ $2.1 million – Expansion, security improvements at the Fort Mill magistrate’s office
▪ $565,000 – Expansion, security improvements at the Clover magistrate’s office
If approved, York County would have to raise taxes to pay back the debt. The increase on a $100,000 home would be $27.60 a year.
Municipal elections
Voters in Fort Mill, York and Clover will elect mayors on Tuesday. Voters in Tega Cay, Clover and Sharon will elect city or town council members.
When to vote
▪ Polls are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday. If you are standing in line at 7 p.m., you will be allowed to vote.

▪ Six precincts – Edgewood, Lakewood, McConnells, Mt. Gallant, Springdale and Stateline – have changed polling locations since the last election.

▪ Voters will be asked to show one of the following photo IDs: S.C. driver’s license, S.C. DMV ID card, S.C. voter registration card with photo, federal military ID, U.S. passport.
