Historic Rock Hill non-profit looking for new director, fundraising guru
The lead non-profit historic preservation organization in Rock Hill is looking for a new executive director and is changing the position to full time to include new fundraising duties.
Historic Rock Hill, a private organization, is chiefly known for restoring, managing and giving tours of the White Home, a two-story house in downtown Rock Hill built in 1839. The group also has taken on other notable restoration and preservation projects locally such as the Williams Gulf Station on Oakland Avenue which has previously been used as a restaurant.
After the organization’s most recent part-time executive director and its part-time development director resigned earlier this year, the Historic Rock Hill volunteer board decided to combine the two positions, said Jeannie Marion, board president.
The new executive director may be chosen as early as later this month and is expected to start next year, Marion said. Applications for the position have closed and interviews are ongoing this week.
Historic Rock Hill’s executive director is in charge of White Home operations, including the historic home’s grounds and staff members. The White Home, located on East White Street, is open to the public and school groups for tours, and offers a gift shop and exhibits about Rock Hill history.
The executive director position also calls for grant writing, marketing and board development skills. Historic Rock Hill is looking for a director with prior fundraising experience and a bachelor’s degree, according to the job description.
The successful candidate also will be expected to bring new private donors to support Historic Rock Hill, help plan fundraising events and manage the organization’s budget.
Fundraising is crucial for Historic Rock Hill, Marion said, as the organization depends on grants, revenue from membership and rental fees, and donations from those looking to assist with historic preservation.
Annemarie Beebe held the Historic Rock Hill director job on a part-time basis for nearly four years. Marion said. Beebe did “a tremendous job” serving the organization and she respects her decision to spend more time with family.
