A Rock Hill man is spending Veterans Day morning thanking those who have served by offering them free coffee and a song he wrote himself.

Jon-Michael Mercereau, 29, was set up with coffee, cups and his guitar outside the Rock Hill Police Department on Black Street Wednesday morning. He also played for people passing by on Main Street in downtown Rock Hill.

“I didn’t have anything going on today, so I figured I’d come out here for these guys,” said Mercereau, who is a student at USC Lancaster. “It’s all about them. They don’t get enough recognition. I just wanted to come out here and do it for them.”

He wrote the song in honor of a friend who served two tours in Afghanistan.

“You fought for our rights and you went to war. We didn’t know if we’d see you anymore,” he sings. “And, we all love you more than you know, and we just pray to God you make it home.”
