S.C. Department of Public Safety announces five weekend road deaths

South Carolina Department of Public Safety officials said there were five people killed on South Carolina roadways from Nov. 6 to Nov. 8.

All five of the deaths occurred on US routes, SC roads and secondary roads, according to officials. Of those, one was wearing seat belts and two were not wearing seat belts. Two others were killed while riding mopeds and not wearing helmets.

As of Nov. 8, 807 people have died on the state’s highways, compared to 697 highway deaths during the same time period in 2014. Of the 553 motor vehicle occupants killed in 2015, 273 were not wearing seat belts.

Officials said 97 pedestrians have died compared to 89 in 2014, 119 motorcyclists have died compared to 83 in 2014 and 13 bicyclists have died compared to 13 in 2014.
