Chester sister saved by brother writes song for La’Darious
Sha’Vonta Wylie, age 7, has put into a song her reason for being thankful this week.
Last month, La’Darious Wylie, 11, pushed Sha’Vonta – his younger sister – out of the way of an oncoming car as the two waited at the school bus stop near their family home in Chester. La’Darious was hit by the car and he died the next day.
Sha’Vonta wrote a little song for her brother on the back of an envelope this week before Thanksgiving. It reads: “I miss La’Darious. But he is in heaven. I know he miss me ... Yes. OK. La’Darious, I will be up there to see you.”
Words of a 7-year-old girl alive because her brother is a hero.
Liz McCrorey, La’Darious’ mother, remains sad that her son is gone.
But for Thanksgiving, she said Wednesday, she is thankful for his courage that saved another of her seven children.
Before La’Darious died, McCrorey donated his organs so that other children might survive illness or calamity.
“He was so brave,” McCrorey said Wednesday.
After The Herald first reported that La’Darious saved his sister, the city of Chester and others around the country have praised his heroism. Chester officials decided to rename the park near where La’Darious died for him.
Thursday his family will gather for Thanksgiving on that same street where the park is, and where La’Darious died. They will give thanks and pray.
They will say what America has said about his courage: “Thanks, La’Darious.”
