Crews hope to be finished with repairs on I-77 in Rock Hill before rush-hour traffic picks up Wednesday afternoon.

Workers have been on the scene for two days patching up a hole in the bridge deck over the Catawba River, according to the S.C. Department of Transportation.

The two outside lanes were closed at mile marker 82 but the two left lanes remained open, according to transportation officials. The 2-foot by 4-foot hole is the result of aging infrastructure.

The road closure created long travel times Tuesday afternoon, with some commuters reporting a nearly two hour drive from Charlotte to Rock Hill.
