Principal: No broken bones, internal bleeding for Indian Land teen baseball player hit in face with ball
The 14-year-old Indian Land High School baseball player who was knocked out when hit in the face by a thrown ball Wednesday at practice appears to have no broken bones or internal bleeding, the school principal said.
School officials declined to release the player’s name because of his age. He was hit in the face above the eye while running the bases by a ball thrown by an infielder attempting to turn a double play. The player was wearing a batting helmet, as required under high school rules, said David Shamble, school principal.
The boy was unconscious for a period of time and then was airlifted to Levine’s Childrens Hospital at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte where he remains under observation after x-rays. The MRI showed no fractures or internal bleeding, Shamble said.
