1 dead, 5 injured in Lancaster County Christmas Day crash

One man died and five more were injured Friday in a Christmas Day two-vehicle collision in the Lancaster County panhandle near the North Carolina state line.

One man in his early 20s who was a passenger in one of the vehicles died, said Mike Morris, Lancaster County coroner. Officials have not released the person’s name pending family notification.

Four people in the other vehicle and the driver of the vehicle in which the passenger died also were injured.

The crash site was on S.C. 75, also called Waxhaw Highway, near the intersection of Ander Vincent Road near the Union County, N.C. line. The wreck happened before 1 p.m. and required emergency crews from both states. The road was closed for almost three hours after the crash.

Patients injured in the crash were taken to area hospitals. Their medical conditions were unknown late Friday.
