A 29-year-old man from Statesville, N.C. died Saturday after crashing his motorcycle into a guardrail on Interstate 77 just south of Rock Hill in York County, troopers said.

The motorcycle driver was heading south on the interstate about a mile and half south of Rock Hill before 10 a.m. when he lost control, went off the right side of the highway, and hit the guard rail, said Lance Cpl. Tony Keller of the S.C. Highway Patrol.

The driver was wearing a helmet, but was thrown from the Harley-Davidson motorcycle, Keller said. No other vehicles were involved.

The York County Coroner’s Office has not yet released the victim’s name.
