A bridge closed for almost two weeks by heavy rains and rising tides has reopened.

The bridge on Red River Road over Manchester Creek reopened on Tuesday morning. The Rock Hill Police Department announced in a tweet that the main connector between Celanese and Cherry roads on the north side of Rock Hill and the eastern extreme of Dave Lyle Boulevard is now open to traffic.

The bridge closed after heavy rains caused a washout on Manchester Creek just before Christmas. When another three inches fell on Rock Hill Dec. 30 and caused more flooding across the area, it looked like the reopening could be delayed another week.

Besides the wet weather, crews for the S.C. Department of Transportation was unable to complete repair work on the bridge because there was a shortage of asphalt between Christmas and New Year’s, when many manufacturers were on a holiday break.
