Great Falls man, 25, killed early Sunday in Chester County traffic accident

A 25-year-old Great Falls man died in a two-vehicle accident on S.C. 97 in Chester County early Sunday, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.

The accident happened around 6:15 a.m. Sunday about 7 miles east of Chester, the patrol said.

The victim was identified as Kevin L. Bowden of 113 Edwards Circle in Great Falls, said Chester County Coroner Terry Tinker.

Bowden, who was thrown from his Honda four-door car, was not wearing a seat belt, according to the patrol. He died of blunt trauma, Tinker said.

The driver of the other vehicle, Laurie Ann Milatz-Atkinson, 55, of Chester, was trapped in her vehicle and had to be extricated, the patrol said.

She was taken to Richland Memorial Hospital.

Bowden was driving west on S.C. 97 and swerved into the other lane, causing a head-on collision with the other car, which was eastbound, the patrol said. No passengers were involved, the patrol said.
