Marines coming to Ebenezer Park for training exercises
Visitors to Ebenezer Park may share the lakeshore attraction with some service members next month.
On Tuesday, the York County Council approved an access agreement with the U.S. Marine Corps to hold training operations in the park at Lake Wylie.
Troops with the Marines’ Special Operations Command based at Camp Lejeune, N.C., will be operating in the park on Feb. 18 and 19.
Marines will be using the boat ramp at 4490 Boatshore Road to load equipment onto and off a boat on the lake.
Three teams of six soldiers each will “occupy the wood line” near the ramp for two hours each during overnight operations, awaiting an amphibious pickup, according to the access agreement.
The agreement includes approval for “foot movement of troops and equipment” through the park, and “temporary storage for vehicles” at the site.
Plans specify the Marines will not have weapons or ammunition in the park during the operation.
