Rock Hill neighbors spray paint massive Panthers logo in front yard
Several residents in one Rock Hill neighborhood joined forces – and spray paint cans – to pound out a near “purrrfect” Panthers logo in a yard on their street.
In about three hours, several residents in the Clearview subdivision outlined and painted the black and blue logo in a yard at the beginning of Clearview Road, just off Bowater Road.
Katey Parham, who coordinated the outlining and painting of the logo, said several residents on the street are planning a Super Bowl for Sunday night, when the Carolina Panthers take on the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 50.
“Our neighbors started a long string of texts” Saturday afternoon, Parham said. “It came up, ‘Hey, let’s spray paint something in the yard.’”
Parham, who said she enjoys art projects and painting in her spare time, was designated lead artist. She is also a nail tech at Kuttin’ Up in downtown Rock Hill.
“I’ve done some of the Panthers logo on people’s big toes in the past week,” she said.
The owners of the shop, who live across the street from Parham, offered up their front yard as the canvas, she said.
Parham began about 3 p.m. Saturday, using flour to outline the logo. By 6 p.m. Saturday, the logo, which was about 20 feet by 20 feet, was nearly complete, including the number 50 inscribed in the lower left corner. They were adding the phrase “Keep pounding” to the side as the sun set Saturday night.
“We have the best neighborhood,” Parham said, adding that most of them have been Panthers fans since the team became a franchise in 1995. “Everybody from the neighborhood’s been stopping by and saying, ‘Looks awesome!’”
Parham said they plan to add a Vince Lombardi Trophy to the logo on Monday.
