Update: Driver killed after two-car crash in York identified
One person was killed after their car struck another vehicle and then a tree late Tuesday, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.
The driver was later identified by the York County Coroner’s Office as Larry Dean Clinton, 54, of Clover.
The crash happened just after 9 p.m. on Sutton Spring Road, according to Lance Cpl. David Jones of the Highway Patrol.
The two vehicles involved, a 2012 Kia and Clinton’s 1996 Acura sedan, were both traveling north on Sutton Spring Road when the Acura hit the Kia from behind, Jones said. The Acura then went off the roadway and hit a tree.
The Sharon Fire Department responded to the scene along with Highway Patrol and the coroner’s office.
Clinton, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene, Jones said.
The driver of the other car was also wearing a seat belt and was not injured, Jones said. The crash remains under investigation.
A full examination and toxicology report on Clinton had not yet been completed as of Wednesday afternoon.
