Lancaster votes for new mayor on Tuesday
Voters will go to the polls Tuesday to pick a new Lancaster mayor, three months after the longtime incumbent died in office.
A special election is being held in city precincts Tuesday. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Six candidates have filed to replace former mayor Joe Shaw, who was elected to a fifth consecutive term in November 2014.
Lancaster City Councilman John Howard is the only current elected official on the ballot. He faces Anthony Elder, Altheresa Goode-Howard, Paul N. McKenzie, Charles Vann Jr. and Garrett Williams.
As mayor pro tem, Howard is currently the city’s acting mayor.
Shaw died Nov. 29 after serving a total of 33 years as the Red Rose City’s mayor – serving four terms from 1978 to 1994, then again from 1999 until his death.
