Come-See-Me festival logo, activities announced
The 2016 logo and souvenirs for Rock Hill’s annual Come-See-Me festival were unveiled at an event at the Rock Hill Country Club on Thursday.
“This is our first official kickoff to the public and we couldn’t be more excited,” said festival chair Jennifer Childers, in front of a packed room of community business representatives and sponsors.
Come-See-Me, which will run from April 14-23, has become known as the largest volunteer-run festival in the Southeast since its inception in 1962. The event was also recently named “Event of the Year” from the South Carolina Festival and Events Association for the second year in a row, according to Childers.
This year’s logo features festival mascot Glen the Frog in an updated design from the 1991 festival drawn by the late Vernon Grant, who illustrated Kellogg’s Rice Krispies gnomes, Snap, Crackle and Pop.
In addition to the updated logo, the festival now has what Childers called a “colorful, newly designed” website at ComeSeeMe.org, featuring a daily schedule of events as well as other information for festivalgoers.
Festival officials also announced creation of a Snapchat account (csmfestival), launched as an effort to expand the festival’s social media presence, which includes Facebook and Instagram accounts.
Also new this year is a program called Glen’s Tadpoles, a children’s membership for ages 12 and younger, which includes goodies such as a lanyard and a special T-shirt.
Childers announced that a pair of events, the Cornhole Throwdown and Broadway Night, have been moved up to the first weekend of the festival. The former also has a new location, at Elk’s Lodge on 344 E. Main St. in Rock Hill, while the latter will remain at the Sullivan Middle School Auditorium.
In addition, the Coloring Contest Awards will now be held at the Museum of York County, where entries will be on display starting on April 17, with winners being announced on April 21.
Come-See-Me honored Lawrence Brown, Doug Cole, Harry Dalton, Cindy Downing, Sylvia Echols and Claire Robinson with Community Service Merit Awards.
