Officials have identified the boy who died after Tuesday night’s bicycle wreck in Indian Land.

Bryson McSweeney, 7, died Wednesday morning at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, according to the Lancaster County Coroner’s Office. An autopsy is expected Thursday morning.

McSweeney was airlifted to a hospital after running into a car while riding his bicycle in Lancaster County early Tuesday evening, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.

The collision happened just after 6 p.m. on Glen Laurel Drive at Mercer Street, according to Lance Cpl. Bill Rhyne. McSweeney was traveling north on Mercer Street when he ran a stop sign and hit the front right end of a 2001 Honda Accord that was traveling east on Glen Laurel Drive.

McSweeney, who was not wearing a helmet, was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center Rhyne said.

The driver of the Honda, a 31-year-old Fort Mill woman, was not injured, Rhyne said.

The collision remains under investigation.
