Carowinds gives inside look at new waterpark and 3-D zombie arena
A free-fall waterslide and 3-D arena with zombies are the newest attractions for guests at Carowinds this spring and summer.
The amusement park expansion includes the largest waterpark in the Carolinas, Carolina Harbor, with twice as many waterslides as the previous water area, Boomerang Bay. Among the attractions is Blackbeard’s Revenge, a six-story complex that boasts six slides.
New additions include a free-fall slide “where the floor drops out from underneath,” a ride that twists and turns through four 360-degree turns, and a slide that shoots guests down drops and turns.
The waterpark will include a multi-level children’s water “spray ground,” a toddler area, new wave pool with up to 6-foot waves, new restaurants and sand volleyball courts.
Park guests looking for more excitement can play an interactive game involving zombies. The park will open the world’s first intra-active 3-D game Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare: 3Z Arena, based off the video game.
Carowinds also will open a Starbucks.
The park opens March 25. Carolina Harbor waterpark opens May 21.
