Driver dies after colliding with tractor-trailer near Clover

A driver was killed early Saturday when a minivan collided with a tractor-trailer.

Johnny Anthony, 30, of Clover, died in the head-on collision.

The wreck occurred on S.C. 161 near Tart Road, south of S.C. 55 and west of Clover.

At 9:41 a.m., S.C. Highway Patrol reports Anthony’s 2001 Chrysler minivan was driving south on S.C. 161 when it crossed into the northbound lane and struck the tractor-trailer. Anthony was killed. The driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured.

Cpl. Bill Rhyne with the S.C. Highway Patrol said it was unclear why the minivan crossed into the opposite lane prior to the crash. A toxicology report was ordered by the York County Coroner’s Office, which may take several weeks to complete.

The incident remains under investigation by Highway Patrol and the coroner’s office.
