The driver of a motorcycle involved in a crash with a truck March 9 in Rock Hill has died, her family and police said. Yet instead of a funeral, Sandra Lowery will be remembered at a service Saturday at a popular karaoke bar where songs she loved - and not sad songs - will be sung.

Lowery, 63, died Friday at a hospital in Charlotte where Lowery was taken after the collision, said Rock Hill police and her granddaughter, Amber Cassell.

Lowery was a well-known motorcycle enthusiast in York County, Cassell said. Lowery helped start the Free Riders club and often particpated in charity rides.

Although disabled, she worked preparing taxes during the spring season.

The family decided to forgo a traditional funeral and have a “celebration of life” Saturday at Patti’s BackStage, 1106 Anderson Road, Rock Hill, that will feature Lowery’s favorite songs, Cassell said.

“That’s what she would have wanted,” Cassell said.

The service will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Bikers will gather for a last ride to the karaoke bar at 11:45 a.m. at the nearby Sand Bar on S.C. 5 in Rock Hill, then ride as a group to the service.

The driver of the truck that was in the collision, Carolyn Ferrell, 74, was cited for failure to yield the right of way. The investigation was closed and no further charges are pending, said Rock Hill Police Department spokesman Paul Myers.
