DOT announces ‘emergency closure’ of York County road

A York County road has been closed for emergency repairs by the South Carolina Department of Transportation.

SCDOT on Wednesday announced an “emergency closure” on Whitworth Road near Kings Mountain State Park. A media release said the closure was needed for culvert repairs.

“Engineers are assessing the impairment and a completion date is unknown at this time,” the release said.

To avoid the impacted area, drivers are advised to take a detour on S.C. 161 to Grandview Road, turning left onto Henry’s Knob, then reconnecting with Wells Road, the north end of Whitworth in North Carolina.

The detour is more than four miles in total.
