Deputies: Rock Hill man threatened neighbor with sword
A man is facing assault charges after York County sheriff’s deputies say he threatened a neighbor with a sword.
Deputies were called to Gerald Nichols Road around 8 p.m. Wednesday. A neighbor told deputies he was raking leaves in his yard when he heard Jamie Bruce Burgess, 31, and his mother arguing in the roadway. When he told them to “settle down,” Burgess reportedly walked back to his home and returned with a long sword with metal spikes around the handle and threatened to kill him, according to the sheriff’s office report.
When questioned by deputies, Burgess reportedly told deputies he picked up a stick and threatened the neighbor because he “got into their business” and he became afraid of him. Both Burgess and his mother told the deputy they collected swords, but when asked to show them to the deputy, the woman went into their camper, then returned and said they must be in storage.
However, the deputy noticed several swords on the ground under the camper, including one matching the neighbor’s description.
Burgess was arrested and charged with third-degree assault and battery.
