Heavy rains, flash-floods drenching York County
The National Weather Service has issued a flash-flood watch for eastern York County until 11 p.m. Saturday.
Shortly after 8 p.m., radar indicated a thunderstorm producing heavy rain across that part of the county. As much as three inches of rain is estimated to have fallen since 7 p.m. in the Catawba and Lesslie communities.
Additional storms that could produce nickel-sized hail and wind gusts up to 55 mph are expected along the Interstate 77 corridor.
Cities and towns that could experience flash flooding include Rock Hill, Fort Mill, Tega Cay, Lesslie, Catawba, Newport and the Carowinds area.
The Weather Service reminds drivers that only a few inches of rapidly flowing water can carry a vehicle off a roadway. Do not drive into water on roadways, even if it appears safe.
