Crews upright train cars derailed near downtown Rock Hill

Crews worked for hours Wednesday to upright four train cars that derailed overnight near downtown Rock Hill, officials said.

The four cars derailed alongside Dave Lyle Boulevard between the Charlotte Avenue and Oakland Avenue bridges about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to Susan Terpay, a spokeswoman for Norfolk Southern.

Crews for Norfolk Southern worked for hours to upright the cars, Terpay said, allowing the railway to resume normal operations in the area later in the day.

There were no hazardous chemicals involved, and because of its location, the incident had no impact on vehicle traffic.

Emergency officials told The Herald’s news partner, WSOC-TV, they did not respond to the incident and this is not uncommon near the switch yard.
