Help York Co. postal workers feed the hungry on Saturday
Even if you’re not mailing a letter this Saturday, the United Way of York County hopes you leave something by your mailbox.
This Saturday is United Way’s annual postal food drive. Mail carriers will be collecting nonperishable food items left beside mailboxes along their routes.
Canned goods, cereal and rice are needed for hungry families in the area. United Way Community Impact Director James Jeter said the agency’s goal is to collect at least 15,000 pounds from the Rock Hill area – but they’re hoping for more.
“In 2013, we collected 30,000 pounds in York County,” Jeter said. “But last year, it was down significantly. We hope to get back up to that 30,000 level.”
Items collected will be distributed through the Dorothy Day Soup Kitchen, Love N Cherish Family Center, Pilgrims’ Inn, Project Hope and the Salvation Army.
