Lancaster native Witherspoon elected president of SC lawyers group

Lancaster County native William Witherspoon, a federal prosecutor, will be installed as president of the S.C. Bar Association this week.

Witherspoon, a University of South Carolina graduate, has been an assistant U.S. Attorney for 16 years. He grew up in Van Wyck in Lancaster County and was a Lancaster County sheriff’s deputy and chemist before attending law school.

Bev Carroll of Rock Hill was elected secretary of the group, which has more than 15,000 lawyer members.

S.C. Chief Justice Costa Pleicones will give Witherspoon the oath of office Thursday before Witherspoon addresses the S.C. House of Representatives.
