More than $3.5 million in federal funding is being made available to victims of a brutal shooting at a historic black church in Charleston last summer.

U.S. Rep. Jim Clyburn announcedThursday that that U.S. Department of Justice had awarded more than $3.6 million available through the Office for Victims of Crime Antiterrorism and Emergency Assistance Program.

Clyburn says the funds are going to the Medical University of South Carolina’s National Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center, to help support the survivors of the shooting and victims’ relatives.

Nine people were shot and killed last June 17 at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston. Dylann Roof faces state and federal charges in the shootings.
