Official: Lancaster domestic violence victim jumped from car during pursuit

A Lancaster man led authorities from multiple agencies on a chase into North Carolina after beating a woman with his hands, a two-by-four and a broom handle, according to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office.

Clint Dewayne Kiker, 27, was charged with kidnapping and criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature, said sheriff’s spokesman Doug Barfield. He was placed in the Lancaster County Detention Center.

At about 6:20 a.m. Tuesday, officers went to a home in the 6000 block of Shiloh Unity Road, where they had been told that a man was assaulting a woman, Barfield said. Deputies didn’t find anyone at the home, but learned Kiker forced the victim into a car and was driving toward Union County, N.C.

Union County sheriff’s deputies and police officers in Monroe, N.C., pursued the vehicle, from which the victim jumped during the pursuit, Barfield said. She told deputies Kiker beat her with his hands and fists, a two-by-four board and a broom handle.

The victim was taken to a hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries, Barfield said. Kiker continued driving after the victim escaped, he said, and kept going after running over spike strips.

The chase continued into Chesterfield County, where Chesterfield County deputies found him standing next to the stopped vehicle, Barfield said. Kiker fled into the woods but was captured by a Lancaster County investigator after a brief search.

“We are thankful this domestic violence victim was able to escape and that she did not suffer more serious injuries,” Sheriff Barry Faile said. “The rapid response to our calls for assistance to surrounding agencies resulted in the quick rescue of this young woman and the arrest of Kiker.”
