Divers recover body of man who fell overboard on Lake Wylie
Divers have found and recovered the body of a 30-year-old man who disappeared after witnesses saw him go over the side of a boat Wednesday afternoon on Lake Wylie.
The man was identified as Conroy Oliver, 30, of Charlotte.
Charlotte Fire Department Capt. Dennis Gist said the search and rescue for the man had become a recovery effort and that crews found Oliver using sonar.
A York County dive team was called to the lake and York, Steele Creek and Charlotte rescue agencies responded.
Charlotte fire officials said family and friends were on the boat Wednesday with the man when it happened. A fire spokesperson said people at YMCA’s Camp Thunderbird might have witnessed it as well.
Officials searched the area until it became dark Wednesday night and wrapped up around 9:30 p.m. Crews resumed their search around 8 a.m. Thursday.
Authorities could not say what, if anything, caused Oliver to go overboard.
