Emergency crews on Saturday recovered the body of a man who drowned in Lake Wylie on Friday night.

The victim was visiting friends Friday when his kayak overturned in the water, but never resurfaced, WSOC-TV, The Herald’s news partner, reported.

Four agencies, including the York County Sheriff’s Office and dive teams, responded to the area around 8 p.m. Friday but called off the search until Saturday morning.

Crews were back on the lake early Saturday morning and recovered the body in the afternoon.

Friends, who said the man knew how to swim but was not wearing a life jacket, saw him overturn in the water.

York County Coroner Sabrina Gast said the victim’s name will be released after notification of next of kin.

Two people have drowned in Lake Wylie this month.
