Drowning victim’s body recovered from Lake Wylie
Emergency officials have recovered the body of a man who drowned in Lake Wylie Friday morning.
York County Deputy Chief Coroner Chris Westover identified the man as David Napper, 49, of York.
The crew found the body around 7 p.m. Saturday near the area where the man went missing, said spokesman Robert McCullough of the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, the agency that searched for the drowning victim.
The coroner’s report listed the closest address to where Napper’s body was found as being in 4000 block of Clematis Trail in York.
On Friday, just before 9 a.m., officials said a man and woman were in a boat that broke down and at some point, the man jumped out of the boat to swim to shore to try to get help. He went under but didn’t resurface. The boat drifted for some time before she was able to get help.
Emergency crews had been searching the area late Saturday afternoon where Napper jumped off a boat near the Buster Boyd Bridge.
The death is still under investigation by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and the York County Coroner’s Office.
Officials will perform an autopsy and toxicology tests on Sunday. Results may take several weeks, Westover said.
