Several communities in York County are participating in National Night Out on Tuesday.

National Night Out is a nationwide initiative held the first Tuesday each August as a way to strengthen ties between police and neighborhoods.

More than 35 Rock Hill neighborhoods have scheduled activities, including cookouts, ice cream socials, and get-togethers. City police officers, firefighters, neighborhood empowerment employees, elected officials and Piedmont EMS workers will visit all of the neighborhoods.

The city will send five “caravans” of these folks around to make stops at neighborhoods across town.

The effort’s organizers also encourage residents – whether their neighborhood is having an event or not – to turn on their front porch lights as a way to discourage criminals from prowling.

These neighborhoods in Rock Hill are planning to participate with their own events:

▪ Sunset Park, Marion Street, South Central, South Confederate, Stonewall and Crawford Road North

▪ Seventeen Acres, Pineridge Estates, Heathwood, Bristol Park, Lexington Commons and Manchester Village

▪ Boyd Hill, Tyson’s Forest, Huntington, Stafford Park, Rawlinson HOA, Oakhurst and Wedgewood

▪ East Town, Confederate Park, Spencer Estates, Seven Oaks, Ardwyck Townhomes and Stonewood

▪ The Parks, Ogden Road, Crawford Road South, College Downs, Softwinds Village, Laney Terrace and Holly Hills

▪ Eagles Landing, Riverwalk HOA and Country Meadows

Fort Mill

The Fort Mill Police Department will host the town’s first National Night Out event from 6 to 8 p.m. at Walter Elisha Park.

Organizers are planning a family-friendly event featuring food and drinks, health and safety information, a kids activity zone, music and local business participation.

York

The York Police Department has planned the city’s second annual National Night Out event form 5 to 9 p.m. at the York Recreation Complex, 74 4th St.

While meeting with York police officers, residents also can take part in activities, food, entertainment and a movie.
