Parade gives Fort Mill High seniors a ‘little, little’ taste of celebration

Teenagers in cars stretched down the street as they waited to drive through the entrance of Fort Mill High School one more time.

Some cars were decorated, with high school seniors standing in sun roofs, others were on the backs of pickup trucks.

The students were given a “Senior Celebration” and parade by the City of Tega Cay and Fort Mill High School Monday. They got to drive through the campus, receive a yearbook and get a gift. Everyone worked to maintain social distancing.

“Normally on Senior Celebration we’d bring the kids out for the yearbook, have a big cookout and give the kids the opportunity to sign the yearbooks together,” said Fort Mill High School Principal Gales Scroggs. “With COVID, we can’t do that so we wanted to make this special.”

Students received their yearbooks. A band that would have performed at the prom performed in the background as cars paraded through.

“We’re giving them a little, little, little bit of prom,” Scroggs said.

Wearing a purple Clemson University sweatshirt, Fort Mill High School senior Zanna Lowery stood in the sunroof of a white jeep that was decorated with “Clemson Bound” signs.

“Obviously it’s not a normal situation,” Lowery said “The fact that they can put this together in such short notice it’s fantastic and it’s definitely where I want to graduate from.”
