A person was killed and two others were hurt Wednesday afternoon in a head-on vehicle crash in York County west of Clover, officials said.

One of the two people injured was a child, according to Master Trooper Gary Miller of the S.C. Highway Patrol.

The wreck happened around 1:45 p.m. on S.C. 161 between Clover and the North Carolina state border at Gaston County, Miller said.

A 2007 van struck a 1999 Honda sedan head-on in the collision, Miller said. The driver of the van, a 23-year-old man from Maiden, N.C., was injured, Miller said. The driver was not wearing a seat belt and had to be extricated from the van by first responders, Miller said.

A passenger in the van, a child was in a car seat, Miller said. Both were taken to Caromont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, N.C., for treatment, Miller said.

The conditions of both injured people has not been released.

The driver of the Honda sedan died at the scene, Miller said. The deceased driver was not wearing a seat belt, Miller said.

The York County Coroner’s Office has not released the name of the person who was killed.

The collision remains under investigation by the S.C. Department of Public Safety and the coroner’s office.
